Introducing Me

My name is Marissa and I am a new transfer student at Loyola University Maryland. I am from Perry Hall, Maryland which is a large urban town right outside of Baltimore. Unfortunately for me, I have not traveled too far out of my way to get to school. I act as a transfer student. However, I do not find myself inside of Baltimore a lot, so I have discovered a load of things just within my first week at Loyola.

There is a very cute brunch spot right down the street from Loyola (Baltimore location) called Miss Shirley's Cafe. It is a nationally ranked breakfast restaurant. It was even showcased on the show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri. I found myself inside this quaint restaurant on Saturday with my parents before Welcome Weekend commenced. If you ever find yourself there, order the chicken and waffles.

Another fascinating aspect of Loyola University Maryland is the Humanities building. Who knew that such a thing could create loads of happiness? I only have one class in the building, but it reminds me of an old home. Every room is so small, yet spacious at the same time. It may be old, but if it weren't a school building, I would be all for moving into the building. I love the colors, pillars, and the comfort of students sitting on the chairs outside of it. It is extremely welcoming and wholesome.

Bringing us back to the surrounding area of LUM, right down the street is a town called Towson. I love everything about Towson. There is a little bit of everything. From exciting night life to mini golf. And the answer is yes, I have gone to play the mini golf. It is monster themed AND glows in the dark with neon colors. If you wear all white, you will glow like crazy. One of my favorite chain restaurants The Melting Pot is located in Towson as well. There is a huge mall with four floors and even a Louis Vuitton store. How fancy could it get?

I am an English major and I minor in Secondary Education with the goal to eventually become an educator. I would love to end up in a high school, but I am going to be more than happy in a middle school as well. I want to be a teacher because I love to make a difference. I know that instilling education into students is the main priority of a teacher, but I look forward to instilling wisdom and advice more. My favorite teachers in school were the ones who listened to me and were there for me. Those teachers made the biggest difference on me. I can't wait to be able to do that for my students.

A fun fact about me is that I am looking to move out of my home. I have invested a lot of my time and efforts into finding a new place. Lately the stars have been aligning for me and I think I have found a beautiful house in another urban Maryland town called Bel Air. It seems a lot like where I grew up, but different enough that I can picture myself living there. Hopefully everything goes through perfectly for me and I can make that happen.

I am a huge travel buff and I absolutely live for experiences. I can find the thrill in everything. My parents called me an adrenaline chaser, but I like to say I'm a memory maker. Nothing excites me more than getting on a plane and see the world. Or even jumping out of a plane, too..... but that's a different story. If I had to choose my favorite country that I have visited thus far, I would have to go with Ireland. It is never-ending beauty. There is so much greenery, cliffs, mountains, and everything you can think of. Can't forget the beer!!! Lots and lots of beer.

I am a product of a huge family. The age difference between my siblings and I are gigantic. I am the baby of the bunch. Luckily for me, I get to be an auntie to SIX amazing nieces and nephews. My brother, Scott, has 4 beautiful kids; 3 girls (Mia, Joselyn, and Kinsley) and 1 boy (Cameron). My sister, Heather, has two awesome kids; 1 girl (Lily) and 1 boy (Logan). My favorite thing about my siblings is most definitely their kids. I love being involved in theirs lives.

My parents are the greatest. I know that we all say this about our parents, but mine have given me everything. When I say this, I don't mean materialistic things. They have given me the freedom to make mistakes and the advice to learn from those mistakes. They have given me the platform to grow socially and mentally. They have given me the support of my ever-changing mind. And so much more

My last fun fact about myself is the love that I have with food. God I love food. My favorite thing to do in a new city is find the best restaurants and dishes. I have recently taken a trip to Nashville and was looking up restaurants for weeks before we arrived. Maybe I should start a food blog....
